Horizontal Filter Separators are a common choice for gas conditioning. Advantages include the ability to handle higher concentrations of liquids and solids. A separate vessel mounted below contains a dirty side and clean side reservoir to store liquids.
Flow enters the vessel and meets diffuser pipes which help large droplets and slugs fall to the dirty side drain. Flow then passes through cartridges which trap solids and coalesce liquids. Flow continues to the second stage where a device such as a vane pack removes carry-over droplets causing them to fall out to the clean side drain.
